Gabriel Delmas - Dexter DrummerWe asked Gabe to tell us about how he got into drumming and what he loves about it: Q. What drumming technique/style do you use? A. I use match grip. My style is drawn mainly from my Funk, Jazz and Soul influences. I prefer an approach based on musicality, the importance of sound and contrast. I've always been attracted by drummer who exploit their own musicality on the kit. Speed is not important, think of telling a story or just groove seems to me a better approach. Benny Greb, Franck Aghulon, Keith Carlock are my drum heroes. Q. How did you get into drumming? A. When I was 2 years i played drum on the grandmother’s cookware. My parents bought me my first drum set when I was 4. Very early I was then attracted by rhythm. I took lessons several years at the renowned Dante Agostini School in Toulouse (France). Q How did your band form? A. I play in a band called Dexter; formed in 2013. We play POP/Rock composition. Through my late teenage years I played with many other bands, but none of them ever went very far. Q. What is the best and worst part about playing on the road/tour? A. For me there is far more pros than cons to touring. Playing in different places is gratifying. From my mind, I greatly appreciate working on my instrument, applying the previous drum work on a musical/live context is stimulant. Q. Do you use your custom drumsticks for merch, playing or both? A. I use my custom Foxy Drumsticks mostly for playing. I won 30 signature pairs due to my victory in the foxy drum solo competition. I want to thank the organizers! Gabriel Delmas set includes:
